Canada: the world's small town

Not sure how underrated some of the books on this list are – Martin Amis? Lydia Millet? Russell Banks? – but this one is even more of an eyebrow raiser:

"For those who got out" ... of the country. See, cuz Gallant lives in Paris, which the Yanks will grudgingly admit is an important locale, unlike Canada, which is just that pot-smokin', same-sex marriage sanctionin', Iraq-war eschewin' annoyance to the north.
